Asphalt is a compound made from a mixture of sand, gravel and bitumen. It is used in construction of roads, airport runways and buildings roofs. The main application of asphalt is in road construction. Low-grade talc is used both as a leveling material and as filler in the production of roofing materials. Talc is used as a filler to stabilize asphalt, which is an important factor in increasing durability and stability of asphalt against weather conditions. Also, talc in roofing materials prevents particles from sticking during storage and after application. The main use of talc is for molded asphalt products. This mineral is added to asphalt sands and concrete mix and increases their air resistance. Low-cost and low-color plastic talc powder is used in roofing to add less weight per square foot. It adds UV protection, oil penetration, oil transfer and fire resistance properties to roof.
